Novell Desktop Systems Group Digital Research DRDOS 6.0 Microsoft Windows 3.1 º ºÉÍ»É͹ÉÍ»ÌÍ ÉÍ» º ºº ºº ºÉ͹º Ìͼ ÈͼÌͼÈͼÈͼÈͼÈͼ April 1992 ABOUT THE FILES THAT YOU'VE RECEIVED... -- DR6WIN.ZIP : This is a packed file which contains the following two files: -- README.BAT : This batch file which describes how to install this update. -- OPEN_UP.ZIP : Another packed file which contains the remaining update files. HOW TO USE OPEN_UP.ZIP... Unpacking this file with the proper syntax will generate all the remaining files needed to update your DRDOS 6.0 operating system. It is a packed file just like the DR6WIN.ZIP file which you have already discovered. OPEN_UP.ZIP is a little different in that it contains files along with their stored path information. Therefore it is necessary to unpack this file with the "-d -JRHS" options (case- sensitive) to put the files it contains into their own proper sub- directories. Type the following commands at the command line to proceed: MD UPDATE PKUNZIP -d -JRHS OPEN_UP.ZIP UPDATE CD UPDATE To create a floppy disk which can be used to update floppy based systems or multiple licenses of DRDOS, prepare a low density diskette using the FORMAT command and type the following: PKUNZIP -d OPEN_UP.ZIP d: d: -- Floppy drive with the newly formatted floppy disk HOW TO USE THE FILES EXTRACTED FROM OPEN_UP.ZIP... *** BEFORE PROCEEDING, read the important notes in README.1ST *** You will notice that the OPEN_UP.ZIP file also contains a file called UPDATE.BAT. This is the batch file you will use to update your DRDOS 6.0 operating system. To update DRDOS, you will need to specify on which drive DRDOS is already installed. If this batch file does not find DRDOS 6.0 already on the machine you are using in the drive you specify, it will not install the update. -- FOR USERS WITH DRDOS ON A HARD DRIVE... To update a DRDOS installation on a hard drive, you must specify which bootable partition of your hard drive contains DRDOS and the name of the sub-directory containing the DRDOS files. The partition will normally be the "C:" partition and the sub-directory, normally the "DRDOS" directory. Now, you will need to log onto the drive and sub-directory containing the UPDATE.BAT file and the remaining files which were extracted from the OPEN_UP file, and type: UPDATE d: path d: -- The drive on which DRDOS is installed. path -- The path which contains the DRDOS files. -- FOR USERS WITH DRDOS ON A SET OF FLOPPIES... You can update a DRDOS installation on a set of floppies in much the same way as you can on a hard drive. The difference is that the UPDATE.BAT file needs only to know which floppy drive contains the first DRDOS operating system diskette to be updated. So, you will need to log onto the drive and sub-directory containing the UPDATE.BAT file, and type: UPDATE d: d: -- The floppy drive containing the DRDOS 6.0 STARTUP DISK. NOTES ON FLOPPY INSTALLATION: -- The UPDATE.BAT file will prompt you for each of the other disks as they are needed. -- Digital Research does not recommend updating your original floppy disks. Use UPDATE on a backup set. -- Users with two floppy drives only on their machine should have the UPDATE.BAT file and the others unpacked from the OPEN_UP file in one drive, and run the batch file from that drive specifying the other as the drive containing the floppies to be updated. WHAT TO DO IF YOU RUN INTO TROUBLE... -- IF THE OPEN_UP.ZIP FILE "DOESN'T WORK"... -- Check that you've entered the command correctly and that any options are used as specified above. -- Check the utility file's integrity by typing: PKUNZIP -t OPEN_UP.ZIP -- If the integrity of the utility file is bad, you may have to attempt downloading the DR6WIN.ZIP file again. -- IF THE DRDOS UPDATE.BAT FILE "DOESN'T WORK"... -- Use the on-line help which is available from the UPDATE.BAT file by typing: UPDATE /H
